Ethics of the Fathers = Life Stories of the Mothers

אם אין אני לי, מי לי; וכשאני לעצמי, מה אני; ואם לא עכשיו, אימתי.(פרקי אבות, פרק א, משנה יד)

Translation: "If I am not for myself, who is for me? And when I am [only] for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?"

That's why we call them the Sages.
